Bio 2023
Based in Portland, Maine. Regularly on assignments throughout the Northeast, and beyond...
Capturing Suits & Lab Coats in their Natural Habitat.
That sounds exotic, right? It can be. Though in the current environment, the suits are being left in the closet, lab coats in the clinic are staying on the hangers under plastic, and the Natural Habitat, formally just cubicles and exam rooms, is expanding. Looking past the corny catch phrase, my assignments are mostly real people, at work. Medical, Finance, Insurance, Science, Tech, Manufacturing.
I hope my photographs speak for themselves, but just in case: I absolutely love creating images, both still & moving. Creating a calm and safe set for my subjects is a top priority. Without this, it is difficult to get authentic expressions and emotions in the image. This holds true whether it’s just me, the subject, and some nice window light, or a crew of 20 with enough light to be seen from the space station. We always strive for a calm and fun set. Not only does this put the subject at ease, but it enables clear and calm communication between the AD/client/photographer so we can all collaborate for a successful image. I never forget this is commercial photography.
I’m an experienced road warrior, whether loading the van for a 20 minute ride, a week on the road all over the Northeast, or squeezing it all into an air kit for a trip to California, Europe or South America; we have done it, and will do it again. After the debacle that was 2020, I am thrilled to be back on the road for projects. If your needs are studio based, I have a 25’x25’ shooting space in the quiet ‘burbs of Portland, Maine ready for any still or video production. Larger rental spaces are available too.

My tools: Canon R5C, R6, C200, C100, XC15 cameras. Lenses from 11mm to 400mm. Stabilizing gimbals, tripods, monopods, and even a doorway dolly. Oodles of LED lights. Strobes. More strobes. Modifiers for those lights (more than I can ever use). Audio kits. Big *ss editing computer. Big *ss editing monitors. And lots of other gadgets.
Drones too!: Yes, I am an FAA Certified Part 107 Commercial sUAS Pilot. for still or video.
My crew: On Still assignments, I have a dedicated First Assistant, though sometimes, it's just me. I try to use the same person as much as possible, vs the 'assistant du jour'. For Video, my trusted sidekick for nearly 5 years has been Phoebe Parker. Phoebe began with me as my still assistant, but I quickly realized her value as a collaborator on video projects. As interviewer, co-director, editor, script supervisor, second camera... you get the point - she is multi talented and a true asset to my business. Oh, and she's a talented actor too. So her skills help coach our 'real people' subjects on camera. Truly an intuitive creative soul, with a kind, gentle presence. As project size and scope increases, I have a pool of talented folks to call on for camera, sound, grip, etc.
But, where’s he from?
Even though I have resided in beautiful Maine for the last 3 decades, I proudly introduce myself as "a New Yorker, living in exile." With my first 32 formative years spent in Brooklyn, NYC, I'll never be anything else.
I am a member of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and serve on the national board of directors. Flashes of Hope & Help Portrait are two non-profits where I donate my time, bringing pro photography to those in need.
When I can sneak away from a camera, I can be found on my motorcycle touring the country or maybe at a track day - where I can speed, legally; or kayaking the wonderful lakes of Maine, or just hanging out with my wife, Sharyn, & drinking a fine beer.
